FRD Ltd is a leading maker for the international design community based in Wimborne St Giles, Dorset. We are a team of craftspeople, designers and engineers working in non-ferrous and ferrous materials to produce sculptural installations, bespoke furniture & lighting and entire product ranges.

ABOUT THE ROLE

We are seeking a Furniture & Lighting Designer with a minimum of 5 years experience to work on-site at our purpose built workshop and design studio in Wimborne St Giles, Dorset.

The Furniture & Lighting Designer will be able to

  • Interpret a client brief and specifications

  • Communicate confidently with customers, clients and internal team members

  • Organised, with the ability to juggle multiple projects

  • Ensure all work reflects the requirement for design excellence and technical quality

  • Enthusiastic about technical detail and capable of absorbing complex information

  • Keen to build strong working relationships

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Attend client and internal design and sales meetings

  • Interpret client requests, draw and present concepts

  • Identify and apply best practice guidance and product knowledge

  • Produce clear and accurate lighting and furniture designs and proposals within required time scales

  • Liaise with workshop team to produce sample textures and finishes

  • Assist the estimator by creating component drawings for subcontract quoting

  • Maintain filing system relating to estimating, entering new enquiries etc

  • Support marketing with drawings, photography and layout

  • Provide backup to technical designer developing concepts to engineering drawings

SKILLS REQUIRED

  • Excellent communicator, with exceptional organisational skills

  • Strong written, verbal, numeracy and multi-tasking skills

  • Ability to work independently, under pressure and to use own initiative to prioritise own work-load

  • Project Coordination

  • Timeline Management

  • Experience in organising meetings, managing documentation and communicating with team members

  • Proficient in Sketch up, Solidworks and rendering packages, as well as CIM, Microsoft Office, Excel, Outlook

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Commute to Wimborne St. Giles, Dorset

  • Valid driver's license

  • Authorised to work in United Kingdom
