Portia Fox Design

There is a quiet confidence to the interior design work of the Portia Fox Design studio; an approach that resists excess in favour of detail and refinement. Since founding her London-based studio in 2017, Portia Fox has established a design language rooted in craftsmanship and collaboration with a deeply considered sense of place.

Before founding her own studio she worked at established design firms such as Katharine Pooley and collaborated on international projects with renowned developers including Candy London.

At the heart of Portia Fox Design is a commitment to creating interiors that feel both composed and personal, each project is layered with intention.  Natural materials, nuanced textures and bespoke elements combine to form spaces that are quietly luxurious rather than overtly decorative. The studio’s work spans private residences across London, Europe, the Middle East and USA, yet regardless of geography, there is an attention to detail that elevates the everyday.

Fox’s background in textile design is evident in her sensitivity to material and finish. Surfaces are never incidental, but integral to how a space is experienced. From honed stone to hand-finished timber, the palette is carefully refined, allowing each material to express its inherent character.

This tactile approach is underpinned by a belief in craftsmanship as both process and philosophy. The studio regularly collaborates with skilled artisans and makers such as FRD Designers & Makers, developing bespoke lighting, furniture, joinery and architectural details that are specific to each project. It is this dialogue between designer and maker that gives Fox’s interiors their depth.

Influenced by architects such as Carlo Scarpa, her approach to design is detailed with intent. This is particularly evident in her larger-scale projects, from London townhouses to Alpine chalets, where architectural elements are treated with the same care as furniture or finishes. Sculptural staircases, bespoke metalwork and precise joinery all contribute to a cohesive, immersive environment.

Lighting, plays a pivotal role in Fox’s interiors. Rather than serving as a purely functional component, it is treated as an integral design feature, highlighting textures and enhancing atmosphere. This layered approach to lighting mirrors the broader philosophy of her work being deeply attuned to how spaces are lived in.

Creating extraordinary interiors for exclusive spaces across the globe. Portia Fox is a collaborative team of visionary designers, dedicated to crafting exceptional spaces.

The studio’s designs are tailored to both client and context, with projects that are shaped by working closely with her clients to reflect their way of living; the result is a portfolio that feels diverse, considered rather than contrived. Collaborating with architects, consultants and specialist makers, ensures that design intent is carried through from concept to completion. This holistic approach allows for a seamless integration of architecture and interior, spaces that function as well inspire.

This collaborative spirit extends to her work with FRD Designers & Makers, where the relationship between design and craftsmanship is central to every piece we have produced.  In the April 2026 House & Garden article; “A few of interior designer Portia Fox's favourite things”, she lists FRD Designers & Makers as being one of her favourite collaborators or makers she has worked with.

By prioritising quality materials and bespoke craftsmanship Portia Fox creates interiors designed be grounded in permanence.  There is a quiet richness to these spaces, where nothing feels superfluous; every element has been considered. It is this measured approach that defines the studio’s signature, an understated luxury that reveals itself over time.  For designers, architects and makers alike, Portia Fox’s work serves as a reminder that the most compelling interiors are not simply seen, but experienced.
